Carlyle “Carl” “Kite” L. Drake

LEWISTON TOWNSHIP / PORTAGE  --    Carlyle “Carl” “Kite” L. Drake, age 82, of Lewiston Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Sun Prairie.

Carl was born on January 11, 1932 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the son of Donald and Blanche (Wolfram) Drake.  He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952.  Carl was married to Carmen Peronto in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on August 14, 1954.  He worked as a mechanic for Wisconsin Brick and Block.  Carl enjoyed taking care of animals, having taken a class in rehabilitation.  He had a strong work ethic, and was a “jack of all trades”.  Carl had been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage.

He is survived by his daughter, Carla (Julio) Imhoff-Almeida, Sun Prairie;  two sisters, Roberta (Daryl) Shave, Poynette, and Barbara North, Rockford, IL;  other near relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Roderick, two sons, Kim in infancy and Mark in 1977, and his wife, Carmen in 1999.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. Alyson Janke officiating.  Burial will follow in Rocky Run Cemetery, with military honors provided by Poynette Area Veteran’s Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.
