LaVerne K. Gorman

TOWNSHIP OF DEKORRA  --  LaVerne K. Gorman, age 92, of the Township of Dekorra, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home.

LaVerne was born on February 19, 1923 in the Township of Arlington, the son of John and Elizabeth (Knuteson) Gorman. He married Vivian Babcock at Dekorra Lutheran Church, on April 24, 1947.  LaVerne was a dairy farmer, and a member of the Alto Creamery Board and the Dekorra Town Board.  He was instrumental in the formation of Dekorra School, even mortgaging the family farm to help cover the building expenses.  LaVerne was also a member of the Poynette-Dekorra Fire Association, the Badger Antique Auto Club, the Dekorra Card Club for over 40 years, and served on various church councils.  He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, reading, gardening, playing cards and restoring old cars.  For ten years, he and his good friend, Claire Robson processed sorghum.  LaVerne was a jack-of-all-trades, as well as an accomplished woodworker, and was a prankster who always enjoyed a good practical joke. 

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Gorman; his children, Larry (Geri) Gorman, Linda (Rick) Olson, Janice (Dave) Kunkel, and Bruce “Butch” Gorman and his friend, Gloria Huseth; his grandchildren, Kim (Shane) McPeak, Bradd (Sarah) Olson, Bryan Olson and his friend, Alicia Cornwell, Jacob (Jenise) Gorman, Katie Gorman and her friend, Trey Pilston; 2 great-grandsons, Tate and Noah Olson; his sisters-in-law, Kareen and Mary Gorman; his faithful dog, Molly, other relatives and many friends.  LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Myron and John “Jack” Gorman.   

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio, with the Rev. Dr. Dan Odden officiating.  Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, in Hillside Cemetery in Poynette.  Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for family directed charities. 

The family would like to thank all who provided care for LaVerne, especially Mogi.
