Dennis Patrick Hohl

PORTAGE –Dennis Patrick Hohl, 55, of rural Portage, died Sunday night, Nov. 22, 2015, unexpectedly from natural causes at home, with his loving wife of thirty-two years.

He was born December, 30, 1959, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, to Francis and Rosemary Hohl. He grew up in the Baraboo area, graduating from Baraboo High School in 1978. Upon graduation he left with close friends on a road trip, eventually settling in San Diego, California, for a short period of time. He returned to Wisconsin and graduated from UW-Madison in 1983. That same year on Sept. 10 he married his collegiate sweetheart, Linda Reinecke. The newlyweds settled down and built a home and farm in Fort Winnebago Township, of Portage, where they have lived ever since.

Dennis will be remembered for his contagious sense of humor, accompanied by a great, hearty laugh, and his selfless, loving demeanor. He recognized the value of a hard day’s work on the farm. An equally important characteristic was his ability to walk away from farm duties and fully enjoy the company of family and friends. He understood that it was the daily moments with family and friends that truly mattered, and made sure never to let them slip by. He enjoyed spending his free time planning trips and traveling with his family. Dennis and Linda jumped at any opportunity to hit the road and explore a bit more of the world together.

He is survived by his wife Linda; his children, Michelle Hohl of Madison, Brittany (Iuri) Gianesini of Roanoke, Virginia, and Benjamin Hohl of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his parents Francis and Rosemary of Baraboo; his siblings, Duane (Laura) Hohl of Baraboo, Vernon Hohl of Baraboo, Marilyn (Dale) Marousek of Madison, Jerry Hohl of Baraboo, June Lee of Onalaska, Myron Hohl of Baraboo, Karen (Paul) Larson of Wauwatosa, and Mark Hohl of Baraboo; and many nieces and nephews along with countless dear friends.    

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Hohl, and his nephew, Andrew Hohl.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, W8267 Hwy 33 E, Portage, with Rev. Julie Krahn officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Zion Lutheran Stone Cemetery, in Westfield Township, Sauk County.
