Monica M. Krejchik

TOWNSHIP OF CALEDONIA  --  Monica M. Krejchik, age 64,  passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the UW Hospital in Madison.

Monica was born June 13, 1951 in Baraboo, the 11th child of Val and Irene (Gruber) Mueller. She grew up on the family dairy farm in rural Caledonia, graduated from Portage High School and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish.  Monica married Dan on September 12, 1970. Together they farmed in the township of Caledonia for the next 45 years. Their life together included many dairy cows, a variety of airplanes and three children: Joe, Angie and Matt.

Monica was a great cook, impressing family members and friends.  Her love of cooking and finding just the right recipe began from watching her mom prepare meals for their large family gatherings. She loved to try different recipes for her family, even laughing when they asked her not to repeat certain new recipes. She was very generous to those around her and would often share her homemade treats or meals.  She will be missed for those recipes that simply can’t be replicated: Rosettes, German Chocolate Cake, Almond Bark Pretzels and Lasagna. (“Recipes are just a guideline,” was her reminder when yours didn’t turn out like hers.)  Monica cooked from her heart and you knew you were loved.

Monica read every day:  from newspapers, farm journals to her favorite romance novels, her advice to her children was: “Take a book with you.”  Her love of reading came in handy on the many trips that Dan planned at the last minute to get farm or airplane parts.  Monica would pack the kids, the map and go.
Monica was completely devoted to her faith and family.  She touched everyone with special love and kindness. We miss you.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel; her children, Joseph (Karen) Krejchik, Angeline (Kevin) Edgar and Matthew Krejchik; grandchildren, Emmanuel, Maggie, Grace, Sarah, Mara Krejchik, Danielle and William Edgar; brothers and sisters, John (Pat) Mueller, Grace Barden, Harold Mueller, Mike (Diane) Mueller, Marvin (Jeanie) Mueller, Mary Jane (Phil) Manthey, Joan (Jerry) Henke, and Catherine (Dave) Grinde; brother-in-law, Ebet Janzen; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Joyce Mueller; many nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Helen Janzen, brothers, Paul, Eugene and David, a niece, Jodi Mueller, and brother-in-law, Dave Barden.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, with a Rosary service at 4:30 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
