Marvin R. McLeish

Caledonia Township / Portage -- Marvin R. McLeish, age 95, passed away December 19, 2015 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena.  He was born August 20, 1920 to Roy and Grace (Berger-Marshall) McLeish and resided his entire life on the McLeish farm in Caledonia Township.  He attended Indian Farm Grade School and graduated from Portage High School.

Marvin was a farmer, well respected and very proud of the farm his family owned since 1848.  His farm hosted the Wisconsin Working Sheep Dog Trials for twelve years.  Marvin was a member of the South Caledonia Watershed Association, Caledonia Historical Society, Caledonia Presbyterian Church, Secretary/Treasurer of the Shanks Cemetery Board and served on the Caledonia Mutual Fire Insurance Company Board for 30 years.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and bowling and was always ready for a game of cards, golfing, traveling, and watching sports.  His word was his bond and he will be missed by his family, neighbors and many friends.

Marvin is survived by his nephew Douglas (Ellie) McLeish of Caledonia Township, grand-nieces Kristine (Jason) Erdahl of Plymouth MN, Jennifer (Jeremy) Allard of Sheldon WI and Susan (Paul) McLeish-Crump of McFarland WI and good friend Laura Wentz of Caledonia Township.

Preceding Marvin in death are his parents, brother Gerald McLeish, sister-in-law Aida McLeish, nephew Charles McLeish and niece Patricia McLeish. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Caledonia Presbyterian Church, N5123 State Road 78, Portage WI on Saturday, January 9, 2016 with Pastors Paula Bremer and Jeremy Allard officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 until the start of the memorial service at the church. Inurnment will be in Shanks Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank Pastor Paula Bremer, Dr. David Gregory, the staff of Columbia Health Care Center and Agrace Hospice for their words of comfort and care of Marvin. 

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
