Josephine Sgroi

MADISON/ POYNETTE  --    Josephine Sgroi, age 93, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Meadowmere in Madison.

Josephine was born on April 30, 1921, the daughter of Peter and Angela (Sgro) Fallucca.  She was married to Michele Sgroi in Sicily.  Together they owned and operated Nino’s Bakery in Madison and Milwaukee. Josephine loved to walk and was an excellent cook.  She had a generous heart and a great personality.

She is survived by her son, Nino (Ninetta) Sgroi, of Milwaukee; her daughters, Nancy (Bill) Majewski, of Mesa, AZ, Angela (the late Gary) Hernigle, of West Allis, and Patricia (Curtis) Niglis, of Poynette; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; her sister-in-law, Zina (the late Jack) Fallucca, of Bayside, other relatives here and in Sicily, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Michele Sgroi on March 21, 1993, three sisters and one brother.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette, with Fr. Paul Eruva presiding.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Feed the Children.
