Robert L. Swan

PORTAGE/ENDEAVOR  --  Robert L. Swan, age 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Hamilton Park Place in Portage.

Bob was born on May 25, 1923 in a home outside Endeavor to George W. and Mary Chapman Swan. He graduated from Endeavor High School.  He met June Mills on a blind date and the two were married in 1941.  They moved to Beloit, where he worked at Fairbank/Morris until entering the Army, where he served during WWII in Germany and France. After his discharge, he went into the Hudson car dealership with his father-in-law in Redgranite.  In 1952, the family moved to Portage where Bob worked at Jenkins Motors.  He also built, owned and operated a Texaco service station at highway 33 and I-90.  Bob also built a convenience store at that location and two homes on Cascade Mt. Rd. After selling the service station, he went back to work at Jenkins Motors. Upon retiring, Bob and June spent many memorable winters in Mercedes, TX.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Susan) Swan of Albuquerque, NM, James Swan, Portage, and Nancy (Steve) Werner of Monona; grandchildren, Robert Swan, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, James Swan, Jr. (Dawn) of Pardeeville, Tyson Swan (Abby) of Westfield, Jan Werner of Carmel, IN, and Jill Werner of
Fond du Lac; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ali, Troy and Holly.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, June, and his brothers, Al, Art and Harry.

Bob has been a proud active member of the Fort Winnebago Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Zor Shrine and Eastern Star.  He was active in the Shrine Midget for many years.  He is a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Thanks to the staff at Hamilton Park Place and Agrace for their loving care, and Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home for assisting with arrangements.

A Memorial service will be held at the Masonic Lodge located at 111 W. Conant St., Portage on October 10, 2015. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Masonic service at 11:00 a.m., with lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest, for those who wish, memorials to Shrine Children’s Hospital or the Ft. Winnebago Masonic Scholarship.
