Doris M. Wheeler

POYNETTE  --   Doris M. Wheeler, age 67, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Country Terrace in Poynette surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on September 7, 1947 in Poynette, the daughter of John and Irene (Curtis) Woodward.  She married Larry Wheeler on September 27, 1967 at Inch United Methodist Church in Poynette. Together, they farmed for many years.  Doris then worked at AMPI in Portage, and then at Walgreen’s Distribution Center before her retirement.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and recently took them all on a special trip that they will treasure in their memories.  The past few years she found immense enjoyment in going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and up-north to four-wheel with her brothers and sisters.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Curt (Denise) Wheeler and Brett (Jolene) Wheeler, and her grandchildren, Shelby, Maverick, Dakota and Manning Wheeler, all of Poynette; her sisters and brothers, Bea (Walt) Lindner, of Rio, Art (Rosanne) Woodward, of Rio, Paul (Polly) Woodward, of Poynette, Evelyn (Don) Jerred, of Cambria, Helen (Marvin) Manke, of Poynette; her sister-in-law, Sheryl (Jerry) Nied, of Cottage Grove, OR; her brother-in-law, Phillip (Alta) Wheeler, of Poynette; her loving furry friend Harlie, other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry Wheeler, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and George Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Poynette Inch United Methodist Church, with Rev. Diane Vielhuber officiating. Burial will follow in Inch Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to friends and family, Dr. LoConte, Kathy, and Sandy from the UW Carbone Cancer Center, Chris and all of the Home Health Hospice staff, and Kelley and the caring staff at Country Terrace for their kindness and compassion.

Being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer was not in mom’s plan, but for the past year, she fought courageously and loved every precious moment given to her.  She was never lonely because her sisters, brothers, friends, and family never left her side.  To say she will be missed is simply not enough.  We love you mom. We find peace knowing you are in dad’s arms now.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The High Ground, Poynette Inch United Methodist Church, and Northwoods, Inc.
