Mary L. Summers

BRIGGSVILLE - Mary L. Summers, age 70, of Briggsville, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, September 11, 2016.

Mary was born on March 31, 1946, the daughter of Annamae Ebert and raised by her grandparents Alfred and Odessa Ebert. She married Curtis Summers on November 13, 1965, in Wisconsin Dells. Mary was a nurse for various doctors in the Portage and Baraboo area. She was a member of Briggsville United Methodist Church, Briggsville American Legion Auxiliary, Honorary Chairperson and active with Relay for Life, and the Living with Cancer Support Group. Mary loved gardening, reading and everything involving her family who were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis; her children, Kristen (Gary) Skolarz, Thomas (Marla) Summers, Julie (Bill) Kayartz; Nana’s grandchildren, David Hall, Chelsea and Leah Skolarz, Kelsie, Lindsey and Emalyn Summers, Rachel (Brett) Johanen, Mike Kayartz, and great-Nana to Brycen Johanen; half-brother, Douglas Kassner; brothers-in-law, Donald Summers, Keith (Karen) Summers; sister-in-law, Pam Kassner; other relatives, extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Annamae (Bill) Kassner; her “Mother and Dad” Alfred and Odessa Ebert; father- and mother-in-law, Archie and Leone Summers; sister-in-law Elaine Summers; half-sister, Diane Milner and half-brother, Dennis Kassner. 

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Briggsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Oeffler officiating. Private inurnment will be at Briggsville Protestant Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage and on Saturday, September 24, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Traynor, Dr. McDermott, Dr. Winslow, Dr. Lubner and all who cared for her at UW Hospital. Also a special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Briggsville United Methodist Church or the Carbone Cancer Center, 600 Highland Ave., Madison, WI 53792.
