Harlan George Breneman

POYNETTE  --  Harlan George Breneman, age 77, passed away on  Friday, January 1, 2016, at UW Hospital in Madison.

Harlan was born on September 22, 1938, in Lodi, Wisconsin, the son of Alvin and Sarah (Startin) Breneman. In 1957, he graduated from Poynette High School and later from UW Stevens Point.  Harlan married June Marilyn Heinze on September 2, 1972, at the Inch United Methodist Church. He had worked at the Portage Hosiery and Wisconsin Cheeseman. He was a member of the Poynette Inch United Methodist Church, the Wisconsin International Poultry Club and the Poynette Historical Society. Harlan was involved in Poultry and 4H at Columbia County and Lodi Fairs. He loved to garden and had a great love for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, June, his children, Brenda (Jon) Welch of Meriden, Iowa, Matthew Breneman of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, and Karl (Kaiti) Breneman of Pardeeville, Wisconsin; his grandchildren Carrie and Michael Welch and Kendel Breneman; his brother, John (Deborah) Breneman of Baraboo; his sisters, Karen (Robert) Klaila of Dekorra Township and Donna (Jim) Lawry of Dekorra Township. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives as well as many dear friends. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law, Lois Heinze, his brothers-in-law, Walter Heinze and Raymond Schleicher, and sister-in-law, Rachel Schleicher.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Poynette Inch United Methodist Church.  The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Lee Bushweiler officiating.  Private inurnment will follow at a later date at the Inch Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Columbia County Humane Society, local food pantries and the American Heart Association, 2850 Dairy Dr., Ste. 300, Madison, Wisconsin 53718.
