Marvin W. Carney

PORTAGE  --  Marvin W. Carney, age 96, a life-long Portage resident, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Tivoli.

He was born in Portage on July 27, 1919, the son of Charles and Clida (Gilson) Carney. He married the love of his life, Marceline Seeley, on July 26, 1941, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church. She preceded him in death in 1989. He served in the Navy during World War II. Marvin worked at the Portage Creamery as a butter maker until it closed. He then worked for the federal government as a butter and cheese inspector. After retirement, he was a Divine Savior volunteer and served as president of Portage Senior Citizens group for many years.

Marvin was a loving husband, father and friend who always tried to help others as best he could.  He took great pleasure in life’s daily blessings, especially enjoying the Packers, Badgers, playing cards, hot coffee and peanut butter cookies.  Most of all, Marvin will be remembered as a kind man who faced life challenges with grace.

Marvin is survived by his son, Tom; sister, Nona Merklein; and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Tivoli at Divine Savior Healthcare, with Fr. Thomas Monaghan presiding. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Divine Savior Volunteers or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Tivoli for the wonderful care provided to Marvin.
