Hilbert B. Hankins

Wyocena—Hilbert B. Hankins, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Columbia Health Care Center.

Hilbert was born on April 22, 1923, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, the son of Guy and Gussa (Kimmel) Hankins. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy at Camp Peary in Williamsburg, Virginia. On July 3, 1943, he married Opal Martin in Waukon, Iowa. Hilbert worked at Schulz Automotive in Reedsburg for over 40 years. He was a member of the Portage Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his children, Priscilla Johnson of Appleton and Rev. David (Kathy) Hankins of Portage; grandchildren, Chris Johnson of Appleton, Nicholas Hankins of Reedsburg, Sarah Hankins of Portage; great-grandson, Allen (Kayla) Johnson of Appleton; two great great-grandchildren, Arianna Johnson and Wyatt Testroete; sister, Janice Forbes of Platteville; sister-in-law, Flora Hankins of Kingston; other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal; siblings, Crystal LaNorma Martin, Raymond Hankins, Jackie Hankins, Thelma Fry-Stickles, Clare Hankins and Wilma Natalie Hankins.  

Funeral services will be held at Portage Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Meunier officiating. Military Honors provided by the Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be at Gays Mills Cemetery on November 16, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Portage Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Pleasant St., Portage, WI 53901.
