Jean E. Holt

WISCONSIN DELLS/PORTAGE - Jean E. Holt, age 78, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Park Falls Wisconsin on October 19, 1937 to John & Eleanor LaVoie of Fifield Wisconsin.  She was married on April 7, 1956 to the love of her life & constant companion of 60 years, Knox W Holt.

Jean & Knox spent the early years of their marriage in California and in 1971 moved to Solberg Lake in Phillips Wisconsin.  She loved listening to the loons and watching the sunset behind the islands in the bay of their backyard.  They both worked at Phillips Plastics Corporation until they moved to the Wisconsin Dells in 1985. Following her cancer diagnosis in November 2015, they moved to Portage so that family could care for her.

Jean’s second greatest love was spending time with ‘her girls’ – there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do if they asked.  Jean loved life – sitting in the sun, being by or on the water, feeding her birds and being with her Sherwood Forest Campground family where she spent much of her time over the past 18 years.

Jean is survived by her husband, Knox; her children, Kim Henderson and David Holt; her granddaughter Nicole (Aric) Campbell; her great-granddaughters Carlie Audiss, Sarah and Ashley Campbell, all of Portage; her sister Ellyn Heath, of Reedsburg; many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother Fred LaVoie; her sisters Gertrude “Millie” LaVoie, Glee Wacker and Jackie Strauss; many beloved brothers and sisters in law, several other relatives and friends.

Jean did not wish to have a funeral and inurnment will be private.  Please join us for a celebration of life and lite luncheon to be held at Sherwood Forest Camping & RV Park, 2852 Wisconsin Dells Pkwy, Wisconsin Dells on Saturday, September 10th from 11 am – 2 pm in the pavilion.   The campgrounds annual customer appreciation dinner and luau will be held later that evening – an event that Jean and Knox attended many years together – and a perfect setting for our celebration.

Heartfelt thanks to Agrace Hospice and Dr. Kimberly Sabey for the care and support they provided, words can never convey our gratitude.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
