Marian Murphy Devine

PORTAGE  --  Marian Murphy Devine, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Divine Savior Healthcare.

A life-long resident of Portage, Marian was born on September 27, 1927 the daughter of Jacob C. and Norma (Klug) Stegman. She graduated from Portage High School, attended Beloit College and graduated from Columbus Normal. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  During her lifetime, she was a member of the Portage Curling Club, Elks Club, Golden Gossip Club (GGs) and the Presbyterian Church.

Marian was always helping someone or involved in something – playing bridge, collecting antiques, volunteering for the Portage Canal Society, helping Portage Public Library with book donations, teaching young children to read, Campfire Girls leader and a year-long AFS foreign exchange student host to Peer Franzen of Sweden.

She loved dogs, her antique filled home on “Caroll Street,” gardening in the backyard, bird watching, her great neighbors and friends. She enjoyed her job at the Trails Lounge and doing survey work throughout the U.S. for the University of Wisconsin. Marian was full of life and loved sharing it with all she touched.

She is survived by her 3 children, Jill (Kevin) O’Connell of Middleton, Karen (Joe) Gallina of Cross Plains, Mike (Judi) Murphy of Brookfield, 5 grandchildren – Sarah (Jamie), Megan (Andrew), Shane (Kelsey), Jake and Kelli, 3 great grandchildren – Austin, Alana and Adeline, Tim and Joyce Gloeckler, brother-in-law Tom (Kathy) Murphy, sisters-in-law Cathy Murphy and Audrey Murphy, niece Sarah Webb and nephew Jim Wiskirchen of California, and many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ruth Wiskirchen, husband – Donald A. Murphy (39 years) and husband – Dan Devine (12 years).

Memorial services will be held at Portage Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Pleasant St, Portage, WI on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. David Hankins officiating. Interment will be private.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Tivoli for their dedicated and compassionate care for Marian.
