Eugene Paul “Mope” Nett

PORTAGE  --  Eugene Paul “Mope” Nett, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at Tivoli in Portage.

Eugene “Mope” was born on October 19, 1934, in Fond du Lac, the son of Louis and Eleanor (Fritz) Nett. He graduated in 1952 from St. Mary Springs High School in Fond du Lac and later from MATC in Culinary Arts. Mope was the owner and operator of the Porterhouse Supper Club in Portage and currently the Village Inn in Westfield. He had previously cooked at the Owl’s Nest in Poynette. Mope was a loyal, lifelong Packer fan, loved golfing, pontooning, woodworking and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Idso) Nett; his children, Linda (Jim Allen) Nett, Dan “Trooper” (Kelly) Nett, Mike (Rose) Nett; step-daughter, Suzy Staudenmayer; brother, Bruce (Joyce) Nett of Oregon; sister, Virginia (Rich) Peter of Wausau; grandchildren, Josh (Jenny) Nett, Lindsay (Sam) Adams, Shawn and Spencer Nett, Renea Coder, Christopher (Hannah) Coder, Laura (Brian) Michel, Charlie Coder; great-grandchildren, Davis and Asher Nett, Nathan Adams, Rowan, Quinn, Reese and Alayna Coder, many nieces, nephews, close relatives and many friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Paula “Putz” Nett; brothers, Louis, James and Roger Nett; sisters, Doreen Wanatka, Joan Nett, Mary Esther Nett.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at 3:00 p.m., at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
