Richard Rychlewski

WYOCENA – Richard Rychlewski, age 88, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus.

Richard was born on April 3, 1928, in Milwaukee. He proudly served his country as a welder in the US Army from 1950 to 1951. Richard was a handyman. He loved playing the harmonica and accordion. He also enjoyed watching the Packers, fishing, taking Amtrak from Milwaukee, picture taking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. The highlight of his life was the recent Badger Honor Flight trip. A special thank you to Columbia County Healthcare for organizing Richie and his daughter Esther to go on this adventure.

He is survived by his family, Esther Martin and her son Jeremy (Taylor) Martin and their son Malchai; Ramona (Pete) Larson and her children Erica (Todd) Mazerek, Shawna (Tony) Mueller and their children Taylor, Austin and Riley; special friend, Gertrude Glasco; Deborah (Fred) Glasco and their daughter Amanda (Lester) Martel and their son Cruz; Janet (Matlin) Holtan and their children Cole, Tylar and “Grandpa’s superstar” Matilynn; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.  

The Memorial Services will begin with the Portage Area Veterans conducting the military honors at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. Chaplain Monica Holden will officiate. Inurnment will be at private. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staff at Columbus Community Hospital and Columbia County Healthcare Center in Wyocena for their care and support.
