Jean M. Wasson

PORTAGE –  Jean M. Wasson, age 82, of Portage, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Jean was born on November 20, 1933 in Westfield, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harold and Mary (Mussey) Slowey.  She was a 1952 graduate of Portage High School and received a nursing degree from Mercy in Oshkosh in 1955.  She then started her career at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Chicago.  Jean was an obstetrics nurse at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage and Madison General Hospital.  She was married on May 24, 1958 in Portage to John Wasson.  Jean was a member of the Portage Curling Club.  She loved reading and spending time at the family cottage on Pleasant Lake.  One of Jean’s greatest pleasures in life was spending time with her entire family.

She is survived by her two sons, Patrick (Ruth) Wasson, Waunakee, and Shawn (Melanie) Wasson, Portage;  two granddaughters, Ashley and Sarah Wasson; her sisters, Patricia Mitchell, Portage, Nancy (James) Hathaway, Sun Prairie, Sue Miller, Madison, and Kathy (Gary) Jepsen, Marshfield;  nieces, nephews, other near relatives and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, and a sister, Penny Hanson. 

A Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the church.
