John S. Gromnicki

POYNETTE – John S. Gromnicki passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2017.

John was born on September 26, 1945, to Stanley and Virginia (Reinke) Gromnicki in Chicago, IL. Eventually ending up in Poynette by the age of five, he called Poynette home. He graduated from Poynette High school, the big red one, in 1964, and then attended and graduated from UW Whitewater with a BBA in Accounting in 1968. John served in the U.S. Marine Corp with an honorable discharge. He enjoyed a long career as an accountant prior to his retirement which involved a fine daily routine and trips anywhere a car would travel, mostly in Wisconsin. COPD and its complications were a constant battle for John but he was able to maintain many friendships while living in the Poynette area for most of his life. He had many interests including tracking big league sports, fishing and most of all, people. One of his greatest joys was his little dog, Patches, who could always be found by his side in the passenger seat of his car.

John was preceded in death by his parents—Stanley in 1996 and Virginia in 1999. He is survived by brothers Carl (Mary) of Madison and Martin (Pamela) of Oshkosh. He was companioned by a most special friend, Kathy.

No services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the Columbia County Humane Society.

Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.
