Dorothy Amanda Mae Haynes

PORTAGE – Dorothy Amanda Mae Haynes passed away peacefully at the young age of 96 at Tivoli in Portage on September 19, 2017.

Dorothy was born on October 19, 1920, in Portage, the daughter of Leonard and Lillian (Kiefer) Simonson. She married Byard Haynes in 1940. She worked as an assembler for the Weyenberg Shoe Factory for many years. She received her high school diploma at age 65! Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as fishing, dancing and hunting. She was an avid supporter of the Rod and Gun Club with her close friend, Leo Pieper.

She is survived by her son Thomas (Kathy) Haynes, sister Saffia Page, 4 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Byard Haynes and son Richard Haynes.

Memorial services will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Greg Hovland officiating. Inurnment will be at Pardeeville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
