Katherine M. “Tootie” Hinickle

PORTAGE – Katherine M. “Tootie” Hinickle, age 92, of Portage, passed away at Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena on Sunday, September 17, 2017.

Tootie was born on January 12, 1925, in Ft. Winnebago Township, the daughter of David and Alvina (Fredrick) Burton.  She was married to William “Bill” Hinickle, who preceded her in death on September 26, 1999.  She was employed by the Portage Hosiery and Dawn’s Foods for many years. Tootie loved family gatherings and spending time with her entire family, especially her great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed playing cards, going to Ho-Chunk, and following the Packers and Badgers.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Claire) Hinickle, Pardeeville; her granddaughter, Stacy (Paul) Opalewski, Portage;  her great grandchildren, Isabella, Isaac, and Zoe Opalewski;  her sister, June Anderson, Oak Creek, WI;  her sister-in-law, Delores Burton, Rockford, Illinois; her nieces, Darcy and Cindy, Kathy, Karol, Kelly and Karen;  her nephew, Jim (Linda) Hinickle; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, her brother, Artie, her sister, Opal Hamele, and two brothers-in-law, Del Anderson and Jack Hamele. She will also be missed by many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, September 22, 2017 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Jerome Maksvytis presiding. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Columbia County Health Care Center for the wonderful care that they gave Tootie in the past three years she was residing there.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
