Allan “Al” Karl Kowald

Dekorra Township – Allan “Al” Karl Kowald, age 69, of Dekorra Township, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Al was born on December 17, 1947, in Poynette, the son of Albert and Bertha (Krier) Kowald. He graduated from Poynette High School. He then married Candace Splitt on November 2, 1968, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage. Al worked as a maintenance mechanic supervisor and retired from Graber in Middleton after 34 years of employment. Al was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Candace Kowald; children, Brian (Dawn) Kowald, Mathew Kowald, Tammy (Robert) Blazek, Ryan Kowald, Phillip (Samantha) Kowald; daughter-in-law, Heather Kowald; grandchildren, Jackquelin, Brianna, Mathew, Bailey, Tyler, Andrew, Courtney, Amber, Aaron, Trent, Samantha, Macy, Colten, Chase, Callie; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kowald and Corinda Kowald; dear friends and cousins, Jani and Dave Gloyd. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other near relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bertha Kowald and father- and mother-in-law, Gordon and Evelyn Splitt; brothers, Arnold and Alwood Kowald; sister, Betty (Tom) Hitchcock; and grandson, Austin Ryan Kowald.

Funeral services will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Gormican officiating. Burial will be at Dekorra Lutheran Norwegian Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the donor’s choice in Al’s memory.
