Bernadine B. Schultz

PORTAGE – Bernadine B. Schultz, 98, of Portage/Tivoli Healthcare passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Bernadine (Bernie) was born on July 31, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Servatius Demerath and Anna (Mielke) Demerath. Her parents later moved to Thiensville, Wisconsin, where she lived until she married. She graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1934. She married Elmer Emil Schultz on July 2, 1938. They were married 54 years.

Bernie, while busy raising her family, also helped her husband on their mink ranch. She worked as a van driver, transporting handicapped children to school. Later, she worked at the Colonial Bank as an assistant cashier. She loved to bowl when younger, play cards and travel. She was a member of St. Ann’s Friendship Circle, Brooks, where she served as secretary for many years. She also served as secretary for the Wisconsin Dells Senior Citizens. Bernie also enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and quilting. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Bernadine is survived by her children, Diana (Jeff) LaPointe, Endeavor, Wisconsin, and Allen (Gail) Schultz, Friendship, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Joan Schultz; sisters, Dorothy Gramoll, Bette Bonne, and Mildred Weiss; brother, Don Demerath; sister-in-law, Marcella Schultz; grandchildren, Tom (Shelly) Schultz, Katrina (Eric) Schmickle, David LaPointe, Josette (Gregg) Steinhaus, Nicholas Schultz and Becky (Brian) Krier; 15 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; son, Richard Schultz; granddaughter, Kristin Schultz; brothers, Lawrence Demerath and Robert Demerath; sister, Joan Demerath; special friend, Fred Brunner; other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Briggsville, Wisconsin, on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Inurnment will be at St. Ann Parish Cemetery in Brooks, Wisconsin. Visitation will be at St. Mary Catholic Church in Briggsville from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., followed by Words of Remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage.

The family would like to thank the staff at Tivoli for their care and support.
