Daniel “Dan” J. Sonnenberg

Oxford – Daniel “Dan” J. Sonnenberg, 57, of Oxford, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Daniel was born on August 19, 1960, in Reedsburg, the son of Richard and Beverly (Rice) Sonnenberg. He graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1978 and married Doreen Jones on October 1, 1982, at McFarlane Road Bible Church in Portage. Dan worked as an electrician for Electric Construction of Madison.

Dan was an active member of Prairie Enthusiasts and the National Butterfly Association. Many happy hours were spent counting butterflies, taking beautiful photographs of rare species to share with anyone and everyone. He loved being outdoors; working hard, hunting and fishing with friends, and observing every detail nature had to offer.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen Sonnenberg of Oxford Township; children, Derrick Sonnenberg of Madison, Dana Sonnenberg of St. Paul, MN; parents, Richard and Beverly Sonnenberg of Westfield; brothers, Mark (Patricia) Sonnenberg of Mazomanie, Jeff (Trina) Sonnenberg of Nucla, CO; and many other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Bible Church, 2939 County Road CX, Portage, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Jeremy Edmondson and Dr. Steven Corbett officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday, November 26, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday, November 27, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.           

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southern Wisconsin Butterfly Association (SWBA).
