Barbara L. Tucker

POYNETTE - Barbara L. Tucker passed away at Our House in Lodi on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the age of 91.

Barbara was born in Chicago, IL to Walter and Martha Hitt. She was an only child and spent her youth in Chicago, Montana, Illinois, and finally Wisconsin. It was there she met and married Charles Tucker on November 23, 1946. She made a home for him, his father, and eventually three children in Wisconsin Dells. In later years, she worked in the school cafeteria, and in retail at a grocery store and a fudge shop in the Dells. The family moved to Poynette in 1964. Barbara then worked in Madison at Hughes and Hatcher as a sales associate. She liked to brag that some staff members from a local TV station came to her to get help selecting their ties, her specialty. She had several hobbies, but foremost was playing cards, namely Euchre, which she continued to play up until this past year. Since gambling was in her nature, she also enjoyed enriching the Ho-Chunk Nation on occasion, weekly if she could manage. Barb was a 70 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and she loved it second only to her family. She served at various posts through the years, and was proud to have been elected to a state office along the way. Barbara and Charles had a cottage on Lake Mason in Briggsville and spent an abundant amount of time there before and after Charlie’s retirement. They enjoyed boating, fishing, and of course, cards with the neighbors. They also spent ten winters in Leesburg, FL basking in the sunshine, perusing flea markets, fishing, and of course, playing cards with friends.

She is survived by her children, Diane (Phil) Singleton of Oxford, Douglas (Beverly) Tucker of Oregon, and Dwaine (Carolyn) Tucker of Morrisonville; grandchildren, Neil (Becky) Singleton, Christopher (Marion) Tucker, Nathan Tucker, and Stacy (Dan) Schmitt; great-grandchildren, Michael Singleton, Alex (Emily) Tucker, Jackson Tucker, Lillian and Madelyn Schmitt; step-great grandchildren Jocelyn and John Schuepbach; the sister she never had, Sally (Kirby) Spees, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in
death by her parents, her husband, Charles, and her granddaughter, Nichole.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, with an Order of the Eastern Star service held at 5:00 p.m. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or Our House in Lodi.
