Allison “Al” Fiske

POYNETTE  --  Allison “Al” Fiske, age 84, of Poynette, passed away on Thursday morning, January 23, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center.

Al was born on April 2, 1929, the eighth child of pioneering homesteaders, Harry and Clara (Clark) Fiske in Ryegate, Montana.  He attended schools in Ryegate, MT and Dunseith, ND, and graduated from Billings High School in 1947.  Al served his country with the Army Air Corp / Air Force.  He took training at San Antonio, TX and Scott Field, IL, and was stationed in Austria, Germany and Africa.  Al was discharged as a Staff Sergeant on March 21, 1952.  He was married to June Breneman on March 29, 1952 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Poynette.  Al had worked at Badger Ordnance, Red Dot Potato Chip, and Addressograph Multigraph of Madison until 1979, when because of his health, he had to go on disability.  In his later life, as his health improved, he was able to work in maintenance at the Bank of Poynette.  Al was an avid Badgers, Brewers, and Green Bay Packers fan.  He was a devoted member of Dekorra Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, June;  his children, Kathy (Whitt) Case, Poynette, Kelly (Wendy) Fiske, Medina, Ohio, Kasey (Karen) Fiske, Prairie du Sac, Kerry (Rhonda) Fiske, Waupun, and Kierre (Kimberly) Fiske, Prairie du Sac;  twelve grandchildren;  six great-grandchildren;  six step grandchildren, and fourteen step great-grandchildren;  two sisters, Katheryn Schaff, Billings, Montana, and Wilma Fiske, Billings, Montana;  other near relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Keith, Phillip, and Calvin Fiske, two sisters, Lela Boyce and E. Marie Fredrikson, and his father- and mother-in-law, Lester and Ed Dena Breneman.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Dekorra Lutheran Church, N3099 Smith Rd, Poynette, with the Rev. Ryan Rouse officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery where Military Honors will be presented by Poynette area veterans.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for a memorial established in Al’s name.

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and aides who gave him such wonderful, loving care at Meriter Hospital and the Good Samaritan Center.  Thank you also to Robin Kinnunen for her loving care and help with his care at home, and her vigil at the Good Samaritan Center.
