Susan Amend - PORTAGE/SADDLE RIDGE - On Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, Susan Amend quietly escaped her battle with brain cancer at age 56.

Married for 35 years to the love of her life, Sue gave her heart fully to her husband, Tom, and to everyone she cared about. Her affect on people was immediate and amazing. From her love and devotion to her friends and large, sprawling family, to her sincere closeness with patients at the clinic, to her bond with the young boy she worked with at the school, she brought light into the lives of everyone who knew her. That light stays with us now that she's gone. We love you so.

Sue is preceded in death by her father, Clinton Daugherty; sister, Kristin Wright; brother, Shane Daugherty; father-in-law, B.J. Amend Sr.; father-in-law, Warren York; and brother-in-law, B.J. Amend Jr. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas Amend; daughter, Jessica Amend (fiance Dale Doebert and his son, Chase and daughter, Kaylee); son, Dustin Amend and his son, Lucien; mother, Violet Daugherty; brother, Kirk Daugherty (Mary); sister, Jill Daugherty-Kelly (Casey); brother, Robin Daugherty (Leslie); brother, Scott Daugherty (Maureen); mother-in-law, Jane York; sister-in-law, Pam Amend (B.J. Jr.); sister-in-law, Joanne Van Wie (John); brother-in-law, Bill Amend (Peggy); brother-in-law, Jim Amend (Terry); brother-in-law, Dan Amend (Lisa); brother-in-law, Tim Amend (Dawn); brother-in-law, Bob Wright (Sandy); sister-in-law, Laurie Stautz (Kevin); and a myriad of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home, Portage. Friends and family are invited to join Sue's family for a celebration of her life from 6 to 9 p.m. at Suzy's Steak and Seafood at Portage Country Club, Highway 33 East, Portage.
