Vernon D. “Buzz” Johnson

POYNETTE  -- Vernon D. “Buzz” Johnson, age 79, of Poynette, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness, surrounded by his loved ones.

Vernon was born on November 24, 1930 in Poynette, the son of S. Maurice and Clara E. (Knuteson) Johnson.  He graduated from Poynette High School in 1949, and was the President of the Senior Class.  Vernon was married to M. Grace Kachelski on September 26, 1959.  Vernon worked for 41 years at Oscar Mayer, and was a former member of the 132nd Army Spt. Bn. National Guard.  Buzz was a Ford man all his life.  He enjoyed cars, playing cards, spending time with his family and friends, and good conversation. 
He is survived by his children, Noreen (David) Lull, Blue River, WI, Amy Sloan, Phoenix, AZ, Paul (Linda) Johnson, Poynette, Jayne Johnson, Washington State, Faye (Bill) Kurt, Sun Prairie, James (Susan) Johnson, Poynette, Jay (Michelle) Johnson, Aurora, IL, Sonja (Alaeden) Jleaty, Mountainside, NJ, Jaralee (Troy) Richter, La Crosse, and Jeffery (Summer) Johnson, Sun Prairie;  23 grandchildren;  17 great-grandchildren;  two sisters, Sandra (Richard) Dieckhoff, Oconomowoc, and Kathryn (“Moe”) Markofski, Portage;  other dear relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, M. Grace on July 17, 2005, two sisters, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette.  Inurnment will be private.  Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank the Lodi Clinic, Lodi Good Samaritan Center, and Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or the Lodi Good Samaritan Center.
