Carol Joy McCune

PORTAGE  --  Carol Joy McCune, age 78, died on Monday, January 24, 2011, at her home in Portage.

Carol was born on October 27, 1932, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Adam and Hulda Tump.  She married Robert McCune on July 27, 1960, in Waukegan, Illinois. Although he preceded her in death on July 2, 2007, they were inseparable in life. She loved music, singing and playing the piano with songs from her sheet music. She loved the Green Bay Packers. Carol always put her children first; going without herself, if needed. Because of this, Robert’s pet name for Carol was “Second-hand Rose”.  A name she embraced. Carol had a great sense of humor to see her through life even when it was difficult. When humor wasn’t enough, there was the Lord. Carol loved her church and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Portage for many years. After a long, loving life as a mother and wife, Carol finally took a long overdue trip to Florida and reconnected with an old friend.  It was the first time for her on a plane and she considered it a trip she would never forget. For this, her family is truly thankful. Carol wrote poems and was a member of the Pauquette Wordcrafters Writer’s Club. Her articles have been published in the Portage Daily Register. She was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, a compassion for others, and a warmth in her smile and personality that all could love. Her last note to us read; “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Her memory will forever remain.

She is survived by her seven children, Michael McCune (Rhonda Grein), Menasha, Douglas McCune (Christine Milonczyk), Madison, Shawn McCune, Menasha, Timothy (Debra) McCune, Stoughton, Michele McCune (Steve Felicijan), Pardeeville, Noreen (Dean) Dzbinski, Omro, Jennifer (Paul) Zimmerman, Portage, nephews, nieces, eighteen grandchildren, and many dear friends.  Carol was the last of her four siblings, preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond, Richard, and Robert.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, and a daughter, Caroline, at birth.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Pastor Jonathan Robertson officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
