Florence Ebert

PORTAGE  --  Florence Ebert, age 87, died Thursday morning, July 28, 2011 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena.

Florence Mae Ebert was born April 21, 1924 in Portage to Fredrick and Mabel Mae (Edwards) Roecker. After graduating from Portage High School as a four-year honor student in 1943 she worked for Schultz's Department Store as a sales clerk. She was a lifelong Portage resident and lived her entire life in the house in which she grew up. On May 29, 1954 she was united in marriage to Kenneth “Turk” Ebert at the Presbyterian Church in Portage. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1997.

She is survived by nieces Jean Mootz, Joan Barrick and Dorothy Hilgendorf, all of Portage, Karen Larsen of Englewood, Colorado; nephews Kim (Rebecca) Ebert of Fishers, Indiana, Dr. Jeffrey (Donna) Ebert of New Providence, NJ, and Richard Jenkins, Portage.  Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, a brother, Raymond, two sisters, Marguerite (Larry) Traeger and Maxine (Harold) Wescott, and two nieces, Kay Jenkins, and Mary (Betty) Knudsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011, at Portage Presbyterian Church, with Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
