Harold William “Bill” Mountford

POYNETTE  --  Harold William “Bill” Mountford, age 80, of Poynette, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison.

Bill was born on January 1, 1933 in Portage, the son of Alfred Wayne and Berenice (Hamilton) Mountford.  He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956.  Bill was married to Kathryn Kay Kindschi.  His greatest joy was being a lifetime dairy farmer in Lowville Township on the Mountford family farm.  Bill enjoyed watching the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.  He had been a softball player, and loved playing cards with the neighbors.  Bill held season tickets for the U.W. Badger Basketball team.  He was a member of the Poynette United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Arlington Curling Club.  Bill was also a member of the Poynette Masonic Lodge #173, F. & A.M., where he was Past Master.  Bill enjoyed going out to dinner with friends, and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn;  his children, Lori Mountford, Madison, Nancy (Jeff) Schuchardt, Windsor, Roger Mountford, Poynette, and Gail Mountford (Joe Durow), Sun Prairie;  his grandchildren, Samantha and Lydia Schuchardt, Jacob and Kyle Mountford;  his sister, Joan (Webster) Carter, Middleton;  his brother, Robert (Donna) Mountford, Poynette;  his sisters-in-law, Doris Steuber, Prairie du Sac and Madi Kindschi, DeForest;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Berenice Mountford, his parents-in-law, Ralph and Celia Kindschi, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Steuber, Lawrence and Alberta Meier, Robert Kindschi, Richard and Carmen Kindschi.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Poynette United Methodist Church, 402 S. Main St., Poynette, with Pastor Sharon Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Poynette.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.  A Masonic Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Poynette Library.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.
