Bruce Johnson

PORTAGE  --  Bruce Johnson, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at his residence in Portage.

Bruce was born on March 3, 1937, in Rio, the son of Albert and Elveda (Pulver) Johnson. He married Jenifer La Barge on October 21, 1989.  Bruce was a member of the Air Force, Air National Guard and a member of the Rio Fire Department for 17 years. He worked for the Columbia County Highway Department for 22 years and, after retirement, continued to work part time with the Portage Park and Rec Department. He loved golfing, being outdoors and always had a garden. He also enjoyed visiting friends at his favorite pub and playing Yahtzee with the neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Jenifer; his children, Kevin (Trish) Johnson, Traci Wescott, Cindy (Steve) Nickell; stepchildren, John La Barge, Tracy Meyers, Wendy Munoz, Dawn La Barge; brother, Alan (Barbara) Johnson; 6 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.  

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
