Elaine Lucille Sweney

Elaine Lucille Sweney, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 in Shawano, Wisconsin.

Elaine was born on August 5, 1922 in Portage, Wisconsin, to Raymond and Velma Hopwood.  She enjoyed reading, politics, and board games.  She also was an avid bridge player and loved spending time with her family.

Beginning with their marriage in 1945, Elaine helped her husband, John, with the operation of their family farm business just outside Endeavor, Wisconsin;  as well as manage their household.  John and Elaine spent many years enjoying vacations to Florida and beyond as a couple.  In later years, her knowledge of computers helped her be a loyal volunteer at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Vesta Warnke;  son, Michael (Candice) Sweney of Fond du Lac;  daughter, Julie (David) Schoenike of Shawano;  grandchildren, Jonathan (Sarah) Sweney, Jill (Ned Arenberg) Sweney, Megan Sweney, Jacob Schoenike, and Lucas Schoenike;  and great-grandchildren, Evan Sweney, Ella Sweney, and Violet Ryan-Krause.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Velma Hopwood; her daughter, Christine Sweney; and her husband, John E. Sweney.

Funeral service will be a private family gathering, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Endeavor, Wisconsin.
