Ronald Wilson Eddy

PORTAGE – Ronald Wilson Eddy, age 92, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Wisconsin Dells Health Services.

Ron was born on August 17, 1931, in Portage, the son of Fay and Irma (Lawrence) Eddy.  He graduated from Portage High School in 1949 and later attended the American Institute of Banking.  Ron married Constance “Connie” Lipke on February 23, 1952.  He served his country with the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954.  Ron was first employed by the Weyenberg Shoe Factory and then City Bank and Trust; starting as Bookkeeper in 1952, teller, Assistant Trust Officer and Trust Officer.  He retired in 1990.

Ron was involved with serving on many committees, including Portage Playhouse, Historic Committee, Zoning Committee for the City of Portage, Jaycees Directore, as 1st Vice President, President and then Sr. Directore, Kiwanis Club, Secretary/Treasurer of the Columbia County Fair Board for many years, Portage United Methodist Church Secretary of Finance Committee, and Secretary/Treasurer of Columbia Co. Bankers Association. He received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding State Directore in 1964.

Ron was a lifelong artist;  painting several murals in homes and pictures.  In 1949, he painted the mural in the Portage Curling Club and a large Christmas “Three Wisemen” picture.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Constance Mae (Lipke) Eddy;  his son, Mark W. (Sue) Eddy of Montello;  his son, Kim Eddy of Portage;  grandson, Matthew (Kelli) Eddy of North Freedom;  granddaughter, Kori Mender of Cottage Grove;  granddaughter, Justina Eddy of Portage;  four great-grandchildren, Kyli, Josi, Tayt, and Elyse; his brother-in-law, Henry (Jeanne) Lipke;  several nieces and nephews;  other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rosemary Ferdon.  

Funeral services will be a 11:00 am, on Monday, December 4 , 2023, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with Rev. Rod Armon officiating. Military Honors will follow at the church.  Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Hancock, at 2:00 pm Monday. Visitation will be from 9:45 am to10:45 am Monday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or School, or Grace Lutheran Church.
