Michael ‘Mike’ James Wilkerson

POYNETTE – Devoted husband and father, Michael ‘Mike’ James Wilkerson passed away on December 29, 2023, at the age of 62, after a long battle with his heart. Mike was born in Southern California on September 4, 1961. His fascination with vintage goods began at an early age while exploring with his younger brother, Mark. He especially loved Volkswagens and Brew 102 beer cans amongst many other things. A few years after high school graduation, he worked alongside his older brother, Steve, in their Volkswagen auto shop.

His love of cars and the road took him to truck driving school in Colorado. Along his travels he met his wife, Susan, in the spring of 1990. Mike and Susan were married on August 24, 1991, in Marshfield, WI. As young newlyweds, the two resided in Marshfield while Mike continued to work as truck driver. In 1994, they relocated to Madison, WI, where Mike began working for Midwest Motor Vehicles as a parts distribution manager.

Through the years they welcomed three beautiful girls, Hannah Marie (1996), Chloe Ann (1998), and Ava Jane (2001). Mike loved being a dad and spent countless hours outside with his girls. He was also a positive male role model to several kids in the neighborhood; many looked up to him as a second father.

For the last two decades of his life, Mike was the owner and operator of Vintage German Autowerks, where he collected and sold a wide variety of vintage car parts. In addition to owning his own business, he was known as the local scrap man; he was recognized by pulling his trailer behind his Chevy Tahoe on the daily.

Mike is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Hannah, Chloe, and Ava Wilkerson; his brothers, Robert (Laurie) Wilkerson and Steve Wilkerson; stepfather, Dr. Richard Triggs; stepsisters, Jennifer Moreno and Susan Triggs; stepbrother, Gregory (Berta) Triggs; other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Beverly (Bromley) Wilkerson; and his brother, Mark.

Mike was an avid storyteller and could make a friend just about anywhere he went. His countless stories about his life will live on forever. Mike will always be remembered for his gentle nature, kind soul, and warm heart. And never forget…SHIP IT & SCRAP IT!

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for memorials in honor of Mike to be contributed for a celebration of his life, scheduled for a later date.
