Marian (Ostlund) Joyce

PORTAGE - Marian (Ostlund) Joyce, 95, of Briggsville, WI passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Maplewood Sauk Prairie.

Marian was born on November 26, 1928, to Rupert and Clara Ostlund in Moose Lake, Minnesota.  After graduating from High School in 1946, the family moved to Portage, Wisconsin where she met Thurman (Tod) Joyce at a dance at the VFW after his return from service in World War II.  It was love at first sight.  They were married on June 28, 1947 and moved to the Joyce farm outside of Briggsville where they farmed for over 30 years.

They later sold the farm and moved to Portage.  Tod became disabled and she took care of him until he passed on October 31, 1984.  She then provided assisted care for many people in the Portage area. She also was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage.

Crocheting was her passion; her blankets, scarfs, Christmas decorations, hats, and head bands to name a few.  She was an avid fan of the Brewers baseball, cheering them on whether listening on the radio or watching them on TV.  She enjoyed music, played several instruments and had a very beautiful voice.

An excellent baker--she taught several grandchildren the fine art of cookie making and holiday treats.  She liked getting her daughter Julie to take her to yard sales.  Most of all she dearly loved her large network of family and friends.

She is survived by her five children:  Matthew (Ann) Joyce, Cheryl (Bob) Neubauer, Tim (Jean) Joyce, Diane (Mike) Baggot, Julie (Mark) Hamm, 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thurman "Tod", and her brother.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home with Fr. Randy Timmerman officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Briggsville.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
