Carol Jean (Kearley) Platt

PORTAGE – Carol Jean (Kearley) Platt, age 86, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Evergreen Nursing Home in Shawano.

Carol was born on December 17, 1937, near Markesan, Wisconsin, the daughter of Vergne and Alma (Siewert) Kearley. She married Charles R Platt on April 28, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells. They spent 59 years together before Charles preceded her in death in 2015. Carol was a homemaker and loved kids.  Carol and Charlie were foster parents for 30 years.  Carol also took care of babysitting kids, was a Campfire Girl Leader, and liked helping chaperone her kids’ fieldtrips.  She liked baking, cake decorating, accordion and piano playing, camping, and traveling around the United States. She enjoyed spending time with family & friends. Carol was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlene (Melvin) Goffard and Teresa Roth; one son, Gregory Platt; one daughter-in-law Sonia Platt; and six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her brother, Ronald (Ginny) Kearley; other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, a daughter, Sherri Ann in infancy, her son Timothy Platt, and her son-in-law, Paul Roth.  Her siblings Elaine, Deryl and Duane, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Greg Hovland officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, at the church.
