Jean Shirley Fredrick

PORTAGE – Jean Shirley Fredrick, age 92, of Portage, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born on January 26, 1933, in Montello, the daughter of  Charles and Eva (McQuillen) Zink. She married William J. H. Fredrick on September 30, 1950. Jean’s greatest joy was her grandchildren. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, apple trees, crocheting, baking pies and cinnamon rolls.  

She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Fredrick and Denise (Joseph) Chapman;  two grandchildren whom she raised as her own son and daughter, Todd (Torry) Fredrick and Billie Jo (Jeremy Ratcliffe) Fredrick;  her daughter-in-law, Marianne Fredrick;  her grandchildren, Shane (Jessica Simonson) Chapman, Eric Fredrick and Carson Fredrick;  her great-grandchildren, Taylor (Ashlyn Shortreed) Thurler, Marcus (Ashley) Pete, Mason Fredrick, Ryley Thurler and Chase (Nevaeh) Fredrick;  a very special great-granddaughter, Leighanna Chapman;  four great-great-grandchildren, Marlie, Lennon, Kai and Pax; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, William Charles Fredrick and Robert Duane Fredrick, a grandson, Jason William Fredrick, and her siblings, Donald Zink, Beverly Schmitz, Arvilla Slabosheski and Vernon Zink.  

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Private burial will be in Moundville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
