Neil George Krueger

PORTAGE – Neil George Krueger, age 82, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Our House Senior Living in Wisconsin Dells.

Neil was born on January 26, 1943, in Baraboo, the son of George and Lucille (Maass) Krueger. He served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis until he was honorably discharged in September of 1966. Neil was married to Marie (Smith) Krueger on November 15, 1974, in Portage, WI and was a devoted husband until the time of her death on May 31, 2011. He was a Brakeman for Milwaukee Road, Soo Line and the C.P. Rail System over the course of his 38-year career with the railroad. After retiring, he went to work for the Flyte Family Farm and sold their produce at their Portage and Baraboo vegetable stands for 18 years, where he loved interacting with the customers. Neil was most proud of his service to the American Legion Post 47 where he was a Commander and provided Honor Guard services to fellow Veterans during his 23-year membership with the Post. Neil enjoyed his weekly get-togethers with his railroad friends, fishing, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was later married to Pamela Miller-Krueger of Portage, WI on April 16, 2016, until the time of her death on January 10, 2023.

He is survived by his children, Tony (Amy) Krueger, Jenny Krueger; Donna (Tim) Davis and Kevin Krueger; his grandchildren, Alexis, Andrew, Zane, Hannah, Chloe, Nicole, Tad, Aaron, Krystina, Kassidy, Kayla and Kara; and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Kay (John) O’Leary, Judy (Craig) Cawley, Janet (Alfred) Nickel and Jodi (Ed) Steele; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Rod Armon officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 47 of Portage or Moments Hospice of Madison.

The family would like to thank the staff at Our House Memory Care Center in the Wisconsin Dells and the staff of Moments Hospice for their outstanding care and support. They treated Neil as family and took exceptional care of him, especially during his later stages with Alzheimer’s disease.
