Marjorie “Marj” Margelowsky

PORTAGE – Marjorie “Marj” Margelowsky, age 96, died on April 15, 2025.

Marj was born September 12, 1928, in the Town of Polk, Washington County, to Arthur and Stella (Raschka) Rattenbach. She graduated valedictorian from Slinger High School in 1946. She graduated from the University of Platteville in 1948. She was united in marriage to Norbert (Nubby) Margelowsky on November 27, 1952. Marj taught school in Hartford and Beaver Dam. After moving to Portage, she was a substitute teacher and also served on the school board for six years. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Portage, WI for many years.

She enjoyed volunteering in her community, church, and many organizations: WEAC, WREA, Portage
School Board, Partners of Divine Savior, Partners of WHA Southern District, Saddle Ridge Association,
LTA, and Wauona Trails Women’s Club. Marj was very active in The Delta Kappa Gamma Society Int., where she served as Sigma State President, Alpha Xi President, and where she attended International, Regional, and State meetings. She was honored to receive the Lorraine Missling Achievement Award in 1996. She liked to knit, and she made caps for babies at the local hospital.

Surviving her are her son, Keith (Lorrel) Margelowsky, Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Tiffany (Ryan) Bergh,
Omaha, NE, and Craig (Danielle) Margelowsky, Wesley Chapel, FL; three great-grandchildren, Emma and Elaine Margelowsky and Brayden Bergh; and a sister-in-law, Faye Margelowsky, Maryville, TN. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives, former students, and friends, especially Susie Henke. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1994; her parents; son, Gene Margelowsky; sister, Helen Jahnke; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Jahnke, Don, Charles, and Elroy Margelowsky; and sister-in-law, Marie Margelowsky.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, W8267 Highway 33 East, with Rev. Jaime Benson officiating. Following the service, a light lunch will be served. Burial will be held in Slinger Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alpha Xi Scholarship Fund, 719 Grove Street, Beaver Dam, WI 53916.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Patriot Place in Berlin for their years of care and support.
