

Kim P. Schmidtke
TOWN OF NEWPORT – Kim P. Schmidtke, age 70, of the Town of Newport, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at his residence.
Kim was born on June 8, 1955, in Portage, to parents, James and Norma (Bolgrin) Schmidtke. He was a part of the graduating class from Portage Turner High School in 1973. Kim was married to Cynthia “Cindy” Schilling on August 12, 1989, at the family homestead. He worked as a welder for PCM for 30 years and then Seats in Reedsburg for 13 years. Kim loved working on classic cars, and he loved Harley Davidsons. His pride and joy were his trike and his ’79 TransAm. He loved to cook, and his deviled eggs were a family favorite. Kim loved spending time with family, and he enjoyed 60’s and 70’s music, classic rock. He loved watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke. Kim was full of random facts and had a great sense of humor.
Kim is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Cindy”; three sons, Jeremy (Pam) Schilling, Endeavor, Aaron (Lucinda Stascak) Schmidtke, Portage and Josh (Marie) Lauver, Pardeeville; his daughter, Torry (Todd) Fredrick, Endeavor; two brothers, Kip (Connie) Schmidtke, Portage and Kevin Schmidtke, Madison; eight grandchildren, Marcus, Mason, Chase, Eve, Olivia, Alexandra, Everett and Kaitlyn; two great-grandchildren, Walter and Delilah; many nieces, nephews and friends. Kim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dawn (Mike) Leathers, Portage.
A Celebration of Kim’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Kim and Cindy’s home.
Please do not send flowers. Send your favorite family recipe instead. Kim loved cooking! In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
