Robert George Schoeneberg

ARLINGTON – Robert George Schoeneberg, age 90, of Arlington, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his home, with his wife and family by his side.

Robert was born on July 3, 1934, at home in Leeds Township to George and Maybell (Mielke) Schoeneberg.

After high school graduation, Robert was united in marriage to Phyllis Ross on June 14, 1952.  They had three children, Randall, Peggy, and Jeffrey.

Robert was united in marriage to his second wife, Cathy Miller, on December 22, 1988.

Robert’s career began hauling canned milk and later bulk milk.  After selling his milk routes, he purchased a dairy farm in the Town of Dekorra, which he and Phyllis and their children lived on and worked for twelve years.  After selling the dairy farm, Robert owned and operated Schoeneberg Trucking, hauling vegetables for local canning factories and did custom farming.  Robert and Phyllis purchased the Prairie Inn in Leeds, which they ran for several years.  Upon selling the Prairie Inn, Robert was employed by the Stokley Canning Company.  After Stokley closed, Robert was asked by a local farmer to drive truck for him for a “few days”.  The few days turned into thirteen years of driving truck for a great family company.  Robert retired at the age of 75.

During his retirement, Robert enjoyed creating model farm buildings designed after the buildings on the farm he grew up on in Leeds, small building projects, and tending to his lawn and flowers at his home in Arlington.  He also enjoyed playing cards with friends at the Arlington Curling Club.

Robert also enjoyed several trips to Las Vegas by land, and by air.  There he enjoyed visiting his daughter, Peggy, playing video poker, and the dry air.

Robert was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.  His home stands where the original St. Peters Church stood.

Robert was a former member of the Arlington Lions Club and a member of the Greenwood Cemetery Board.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Cathy of Arlington;  his children, Randall (Karen) Schoeneberg of Oxford, WI, Peggy (Keith) Cooke of Gold Hill, Oregon, and Jeffrey Schoeneberg of Tomah, WI;  his step-children, Amy (Todd) Cuff and Matthew (Sarah) Pafford;  six grandchildren, Scott, Rebecca, Ryan, Joshua, Jordan, and Dylan;  five step-grandchildren, Lucy, Georgia, Kennedy, Raelyn, and Kelin;  seven great-grandchildren;  his sister, Alice Erstad of DeForest, WI;  his brother, George (Brita) Schoeneberg of Poynette;  his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kathy Miller, Antoinette Miller, Dan Miller, Meg (Wayne) Hansen, Beth (Leroy) Riedel, and Gus Miller;  many nieces, nephews, family and friends.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents, father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Charlotte Miller, brothers-in-law, Richard Erstad, Jim Wendt, and David Miller; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Miller.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, North Leeds.
