POYNETTE – Mahlon “Mike” J. Brasda, age 89 of Poynette, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at UW Hospital Madison after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Mike was born on May 30, 1937, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the son of Andrew and Gladys (Hanson) Brasda. Mike grew up in and around the LaCrosse area and St. Michael’s Orphanage in LaCrosse. After graduating high school in Cashton, Mike took a job working on a farm in Dekorra, Wisconsin, where he met the love of his life, Evidean Branton at a barn dance. They married on November 22, 1958, and built a home in Poynette where they had four children, Michael (Maria Olson), June, Andrew and Judy (Jeff Lohr) and eleven grandchildren, David, Sandra, Philip (deceased), Zachary, Melinda, Gary, Michael, Spencer, Troy, Shayne and Conrad. Mike worked most of his life as a press operator and mechanic for Rock Tenn Printing before retiring to the “cottage” near Briggsville. After Evidean’s passing (2002), Mike was lucky enough to reconnect with a family friend, Jorene Murray, who also loved to dance. Mike then married the second love of his life in 2005. Mike and Jorene danced until Mike could no longer dance, and then he did projects around the house. Mike and Jorene remained married until he passed.
Mike always enjoyed dancing, traveling, time with family and friends, playing cards, building and fixing things, helping his family whenever possible and sharing his cookie stash with his grandchildren. Mike was a kind, friendly, charmer who was fun to be around. Mike was always ready with a joke, a story or a mischievous grin. He made new friends everywhere he went. He was generous and giving to his family and dearest friends.
Mike brought so much joy and laughter into the lives of so many. He will be missed by his surviving family and friends.
