Ronald William Dreyer

OXFORD – Ronald William Dreyer, age 87, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at his residence with his loving family beside him.

Ronald was born on July 29, 1938, in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of Elmer Carl John and Elma Frances (Nelson) Dreyer. Ronald married his high school sweetheart Helen Elsie Kopplin on September 22, 1956, renewing their vows August 3, 2020.

After losing his left hand at the young age of eighteen, Ronald worked for D & T Trucking for many years before buying his own truck and starting his own business. Ronald had a huge love for trucking and his semi, nothing held Ronald back. Ronald was a determined, hardworking man who truly enjoyed his time hauling across the country. Ronald continued to drive truck well into his later years, retiring from trucking in his early 70’s.

Ronald was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a cat lover and was always taking in and caring for stray cats, calling himself their “daddy”. He had a special love for his cat “Niner”. Ronald was always happy with a smile on his face and loved to sing.

Survived by his wife, Helen; children, Allan (Kelly) Dreyer, Dale (Rocky) Dreyer, Terrance (Kimberly) Dreyer, Kim (Kurt) Alexander; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Sheffield; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Ronald is preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald “Louie” Dreyer; and brother, Robert Dreyer.

Services will be private and held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Ronald’s memory to Little Orphans Cat Shelter in Montello.

The family would like to give a special thanks for the wonderful care to Agrace Hospice, Divine Savior Hospital of both Portage and Wisconsin Rapids, and Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home, of Portage.
