Jean Marie Smith

POYNETTE – Jean Marie Smith, age 77, of Poynette, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at her home, with family by her side.

Jean was born on May 3, 1949, in Hickory, North Carolina, the daughter of J.P. and Marion (Offerdahl) Miller. In 1953, her father died. Jean was then adopted by Robert T. Wright after her mother married him in 1959. On Valentine’s Day in 1976, Jean married her loving husband, Robert Kent Smith. She loved watching any sport the U.W. Badgers played, especially Badger Hockey. She, of course, was also a Green Bay Packers fan. Jean enjoyed bird watching and was especially fond of the hummingbirds she fed. She also enjoyed reading fantasy novels.

Jean is survived by her children, Melissa (Chris) Spangler and Matthew (Sydney – Rae) Smith; grandchildren, Zachary Amburn and Ember Spangler; brothers, Jeff (Gud), Dave (Ann), Dick (Lucy), John (Jenny) Wright; sister, Karen Lindow; other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and her parents, Robert and Marion.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Pflanz Mendrala Funeral Home, in Poynette, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ASPCA.
